Fact Sheet and Expanded Overview

One Acre Fund Expanded Overview (10-page brochure about our work)

Story Ideas

  • One Acre Fund's unique program of providing help directly to farmers is catching on! The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation recently gave $20 million to the World Bank to establish an "Agriculture Finance Support Facility". The program's mission is to increase access to financial services for agricultural businesses, including such crop insurance, which is a key part of One Acre Fund's program model.

  • Though it isn't appearing as much in the news, the world food crisis goes on, and is in fact intensifying. The UN recently released a report saying that communities still reeling from record high food prices are now coping with increased unemployment and hunger. "The majority of households", the report says, "are coping by reducing the number of meals eaten per day or serving up cheaper but less nutritious foods.” One Acre Fund farmers are the poorest of the poor, and yet they have largely escaped these impacts, as high food prices have in fact meant increased income for their families.

Fall 2009 Performance Report

Every six months, One Acre Fund pulls together a performance report that provides our donors with an honest view of our progress. Our most recent report, for the six months ending October 2009, discusses the following accomplishments:

  • Grew program size from 8,000 farm families to 12,000 farm families, serving more than 48,000 children
  • Had our seventh harvest, increasing take-home farm income by 100% per acre, with 98% of farmers repaying program fees
  • Covered 45% of our field costs through farmer repayments, up from 35% six months ago, which will continue to go up over time

This report briefly concludes with our vision for the future, which we are truly excited about. We have a good start, but momentum is building at a terrifice pace, and we are on track to create life-change for 70,000 families in the next 36 months. This momentum is largely due to you, our loudest supporters.
