Welcome to One Acre Fund
Africa is facing a growing food crisis. Already, one in six children do not survive to age five - mostly due to hunger-related causes. Record food shortages will only make the problem worse.
One Acre Fund is a new organization that helps East African farmers to grow their own way out of hunger. 75% of East Africans are farmers - the solution to their food crisis lies in their own fields.
Our core values:
![]() |
We help the poorest farmers in the world to grow more |
![]() |
We don't hand out - we empower farmers with tools, and they pay us back |
![]() |
We dream big - in 2009, we grew to 12,000 farm families, and we now serve 22,000 |
![]() |
We generate measurable impact - on average, we double farm income |
Our Work:
East Africa is blessed with abundant sunshine and tropical warmth - farmers should be yielding three or four times their current harvests.
Yet our farmers are still using Bronze Age techniques. Since they are starting from nothing, they need help in more than one area. One Acre Fund takes a unique, complete approach to unlock their potential.
The impact? On average, One Acre Fund doubles the profitability on every planted acre. Our farmers grow an average of 3,000 more meals per year.
A Complete Solution for Farmers

Results:
One Acre Fund is a metrics-driven organization. We carefully measure, and honestly report, all internal performance metrics. Our metrics follow three basic objectives: (1) Reach a lot of people, (2) Generate high-quality impact, and (3) Do it as cheaply as possible.

Meet Francine
Francine has five children, ranging from six months old to twelve years old. Her family, like most Rwandan farm families, suffers a three-month annual “hunger season” – her children simply do not have enough to eat.
Last season, Francine planted a half-acre of land with One Acre Fund, using 140 pounds of seed potato, 80 pounds of fertilizer, and 40 pounds of climbing-bean seed.
She estimates that at harvest time, she will earn $200 more in profit than last year, even after repaying One Acre Fund for program fees. This might not sound like a lot, but it is a more than doubling of her farm income, and is enough to send all of her children to school.
Francine’s story is not exceptional – One Acre Fund farmers routinely get the largest harvests of their lives, and the incremental income has an enormous impact on the quality of life of their children. Best of all, they earned it for themselves!

Act

Every extra dollar makes a big difference for our program, not only because a dollar goes a very long way in Africa, but also because we invest your money, we don't give it away. Every dollar is a step toward life-altering progress for one of our farm families.
If you decide to donate, we'd urge you to join our Investment Council for a one-time donation of $240, or a recurring donation of $20 per month. $20 per month starts two families on our program. Click here for our secure donation form.
In the meantime, please take a look around our site. You'll find information on our program and detailed descriptions of our impact, as told through stories about our farm families, and through our field data and six-month performance reports. You can also find information on other ways to get involved, news mentions, and other information about our organization.
And on behalf of our farm families, thank you for your support.
